… a better world is possible.

In September 2000, during the first session of the United Nations in the new millennium, leaders of 189 countries, including Belgium, signed a consensus together, to combat the poverty in the world. On the basis of this consensus 8 important objectives were put forward for the international community to realise by 2015.

The 8 millennium objectives are:

  1. to expulse the greatest povety and honger
  2. to make elementary education available for everyone
  3. to promote the same treatment of men and women
  4. to lower the childrens death toll
  5. to improve the health of mothers
  6. to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other sicknesses
  7. to actively work towards a sustainable environment
  8. to work towards the worldwide partnership in development

The second objective "education for all" was to be achieved through a partnership between rich and poor lands. The rich lands promised the poor lands, with a viable plan to give basic education to all, to provide the funds for these plans to work.
Belgium allied itself with the Belgium NGO's who took on this challenge to bring this objective to fruition.

Within its own system CUNINA decided to help, via her individual and collective foster parent scheme, in the realisation of the 2nd objective: to offer children worldwide the chance of basic education. On the other hand, with our educational support projects, we are also working towards objectives 4 and 6.
CUNINA remains an independent organisation without any political affiliations and is proud of the basic principal that all assembled funds are spent on the benefit of the CUNINA fosterchildren and the projects.
