CUNINA foster children
South Africa is the latest country where CUNINA started individual foster parenting in 2002. In Eshowe, Zulu-sister Inocentia takes care of the follow-up of the first foster care list in this region, together with her “leaders” or voluntary assistants.
In July 2007 the new CUNINA office in Eshowe opened. From here the second foster care list, namely the orphans from the CUNINA ZULU TRUST project, will be guided.
Eshowe is a small town in the KwaZulu-Natal province. Eshowe has about 15.000 inhabitants and is surrounded by rural villages with about 100.000 inhabitants all together. With an HIV-contamination degree of 1 in 3, KwaZulu-Natal is the most afflicted region in South Africa. Many children have lost one or both parents to AIDS and struggle to keep themselves alive. Often the entire family depends on the grandmother and her state pension of converted 60 euros. Going to school is the last thing on the minds of these children…
With the CUNINA ZULU TRUST-project, CUNINA aims primarily at providing basic needs in a local context: accommodation, food, medical care and shelter. See projects - South-Africa. By 2011, 800 orphans will have found a new home thanks to this project.
For each of these orphans, CUNINA also finds foster parents who are willing to contribute to their education.
