Joemy from Baguio - Philippines
“Each child has the right to a decent education, but at this moment there are millions of children who cannot go to school because of poverty or an insecure existence. When I was still a child, my mother told me that I shouldn’t dream of what was impossible, like realizing my dreams through education. But Cunina, known for its financial adoptions and projects for unprivileged children all around the world, surprised me and gave me the opportunity to achieve my dreams.
With the help of Sister Agnes Bytebier, who leads the Cunina program here in Baguio City, I too was blessed with fantastic foster parents who changed my life in an instant… more than I could ever have imagined. From then on, I dared to dream the impossible. I believed that it wasn’t a privilege but a right to everyone, especially to children in poor countries (such as my own country, the Philippines), because I know the future of a land lays in the hands of its youth. I lost my father when I was 5 years old, my heart broke, but I continued having hope. Before, I thought that dreams always would be dreams but my foster parents gave me the opportunity to fulfil my life’s dream, namely graduate and obtain a degree. The love and gratitude I feel towards them could never be influenced by anybody or anything in this world! They gave me more than I ever expected. Their love, caring, thoughts and every thing, however small, gave me the courage necessary to continue in spite of the poverty. They will forever be part of my family. I feel like a complete person now! Now that I’ve finished my education, I want to dedicate everything I have achieved and everything I will achieve, to them!
This is the only way I can think of to thank them for everything they gave and showed me. I told them “THANK YOU VERY MUCH” many many times but this time I say it with tears in my eyes and a big smile on my face, a smile that comes from within..
In the name of my fellow foster children in Baguio, and from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the Cunina organisation and the foster parents for their fantastic work. Our dream has come true thanks to your devoted and unequalled support.
SALAMAT PO SA INYONG WALANG SAWANG PAGTULONG SA MGA MAHIHIRAP “
